Algorithms / Deque Design Tradeoffs

Least You Need to Know: Deques, Front/Back Operations, and Design Tradeoffs

A deque supports insertion and removal at both ends, so it can imitate either a stack or a queue and can also handle patterns that need both. Interview questions use deques when a single-end structure would be too restrictive.

مختصر حل شدہ مثال

  • A browser-history style undo stack needs only one end.
  • A waiting line needs enqueue at the back and dequeue at the front.
  • A deque can support both patterns and also sliding-window problems that evict from one end while adding to the other.
  • Circular-array implementations track front and back indices and wrap around as needed.
